Psycho Wins the Pen Award
1 November 2022Dante Del Vecchio, Master pen maker of Pineider told us about the characteristics of the pen that won the most important international competition. We met Dante del Vecchio to ask him more about his creations. Below is an excerpt from our interview. What inspired you when you have created the Psycho pen? Like every creation I make, there is always something that drives me, at a subconscious level, to express my ideas. When I set out to create Psycho I wanted to represent the human psycho: so complex. Sometimes twisted and for this I created an elegant but intertwined superstructure. A finished weaving. What do you think about when you think of a pen project to make? Every time I create a pen I look for the opportunity to express myself. I like my pens to communicate a feeling, an idea, a concept, albeit abstract but not too much. When my pens arouse an emotion, I am happy and feel I have done a good job. I let myself be inspired by everything around me: a philosophical concept, a book, an idea or even an airplane. Literally everything! How do you recognize your touch in a pen? I think my greatest quality is originality. I somehow manage to create different, creative and technological pens, which have a select audience that recognizes and esteems me. What is the passion for Dante del Vecchio? It’s all you do with your heart and not with your mind. It’s all you hear, hear, see and perceive not with your reason but with your heart. It’s something you feel pulsing inside your stomach. The passion is visceral. Did you always know that making pens was your way? No, absolutely no. Passion is also a profession that came to me over time. The pens on the market didn’t satisfy me and so over time I learned to observe and understand not only what I liked to do, but also what others are doing. What does this award represent for you? It’s a great satisfaction. It’s always nice to receive recognition, even if I got my first award in 1993. But this is especially special for my second life. It is the first prize I receive with Pineider and this makes me happy, even if to be honest, my greatest satisfaction is the people who choose my creations and are happy in buying my pens. What are you working on now? Can you give us some spoilers? No, I won’t give you any spoilers. I really can’t, but I tell you that those who follow me and have a passion for my creations will really have fun. Aggiungi ai preferiti

Your passions, our story
We have founded the first Pineider’s blog, a tribute to the history of the brand, to the secrets of handwriting and to the culture of Florentine craftsmanship. Dear friend, Starting today we want to give voice to our centennial history and our love for craftsmanship through a constant, contemporary and detailed story. “Digital is the immutable realm of anonymity, manual writing that of unrepeatable singularities that rebel against the mechanism of seriality and correspond to authentic luxury”, wrote Enrico Dal Buono in Pineider’s “Manifesto” that the great Pierfrancesco Favino interpreted for us. Our first blog was therefore born to tell the story, the characteristics and the craftsmanship of tools and accessories that make life an intertwining of passions. Indeed, Pineider is a kaleidoscope of precious products, experiences and traditions united by a passion for life and for luxury, which is the ability to know how to make every moment important: at work, in your free time, during a trip. It is an attitude that at Pineider we call culture. This is why we felt the need to tell you who we are, where we come from, what we do and why we do it through a weekly appointment. We will talk about writing, craftsmanship and research, we will listen to the advice of experts, we will study etiquette, we will learn about the secrets of ink and paper, but also the difference between the materials that make our products unique, eternal and precisely for this reason sustainable. …Enjoy the reading! Workshop at Pineider: the pleasure of a beautiful writing
18 October 2022Writing is an act that makes us immortal an old master of calligraphy said. They teach us to write from an early age, but rarely when we grow up do we dwell on this act. An act full of art through which people express themselves. A revolutionary act from which our civilization was born. The art of Western calligraphy originated from Greek and Roman scribes. But did you know that one of the most famous calligraphic styles in the world was born in Italy? It is called Italico, taken from a chancery style born during the Renaissance to give the western world an italic character from which all the others are derived today. The Italian language derives from notarial deeds. And the littera antiqua, which originated in Florence, derives from the minuscule carolina. Italic became the symbol of good taste and Italian culture, so much so that Michelangelo Buonarroti wrote sonnets in beautiful Italic. An iconic writing that is taught thanks to its simple and fast stroke, practical for daily use and easy to reproduce both with a quill pen and with the nib with a truncated point as well as with a simple fountain pen, rollerball or even ballpoint. The rhythm, the alternation of thick and thin strokes, this elegance in seeing one’s handwriting improved led us to imagine this 8-hour workshop. What will we do in these 8 hours? We will immerse ourselves together in the forms of Florentine humanistic writing that was born around 1400, the starting point of all Renaissance thought, to get to touch the Italian style. We will use the truncated point pen and learn to control it. We will focus on all the fundamental aspects to start doing calligraphy: posture, breathing, hand and shoulder movement. We will learn to closely observe the secrets of beautiful writing: proportions, rhythm, ductus, chiaroscuro. By analyzing some manuscripts preserved in the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana in Florence, we will rediscover and draw the ancient forms of our lowercase alphabet. All this and not only because writing is good for the body and mind. Writing leads us to considerable psycho-physical benefits. As Plato said “Calligraphy is the geometry of the soul”. Our Manifesto
17 October 2022Choices are not between past and future. Choices are between time and nothing. If you choose time, it will tell. If you choose nothing, it will be silent forever. Because storytelling first of all means to recount: lining up events, dividing moments into the before and the after, giving meaning to the chaos of our experiences on this shapeless earth. History began with the first word ever written and will finish on a blank sheet of paper. History, that is, began with the ambition that makes our species so different from all the others: to last beyond our lifetime. Writing is more than just letters and numbers. History is a humming choir of pens that sings about time across pages, an ancient dance of the alphabet directed by punctuation: words that stop for a question, then start again with the new-found certainty of a capital letter; words that hesitate over a comma; words that after a line break, jump into the abyss of their tomorrow. In today’s digital age, when words can be reproduced infinitely and freely wander in cyberspace, the paper, and the pen preserves the fragile beauty of something that cannot be replicated. The slanted “l”, the whimsical “g”, the slight smear of ink, the distance between words: these are the fingerprints of the human personality. We don’t have a body: we are bodies. Exposed to bad weather and injuries, a body becomes damaged, a body to be looked after. Pineider takes care of our essence, unique and mortal. The digital world gives anonymity a free reign, whereas writing manually is a dimension of unrepeatable singularities. Writing a simple note by hand becomes a subversive gesture, a way to claim one’s unique quality. Holding a pen, we expose ourselves to the risk of loss and devote ourselves to a certainty of the never again. This decision is what rebels against the mechanism of regularity, and corresponds with authentic luxury. Enrico Dal Buono Aggiungi ai preferiti

As expected: Pineider presents the collaboration with Pierfrancesco Favino
7 October 2022October 2022 Coinciding with the release in theaters of the awaited film “Il Colibrì” directed by Francesca Archibugi and based on the best seller of the same name by Sandro Veronesi, Pineider enters into the heart of the collaboration with Pierfrancesco Favino, thus confirming the close link with the cinema, storytelling and writing. Pierfrancesco Favino, through the images of Pineider, tells his passion for writing and handwriting the distinctive timeless elegance of a high quality Made in Italy, which distinguishes the history of Pineider and the values of which the actor has always been symbol. The script is a page of beauty full of emotion, the search for a new identity through the characters played, to give shape and order to the essence of the parts. In a life of continuous suspensions, like the one experienced by the protagonist of Favino’s latest film, the goal is to remain anchored to one’s most reflective thoughts, as to one’s daily life. Since 1774 Pineider has been committed to offering a selection of writing instruments and leather goods suitable for a dynamic lifestyle, but also for moments of reflection and meditation. The wait, described in the images that Pierfrancesco Favino dedicates to Pineider, is the one between the moments spent writing, in balance between his origins, transformation and evolution, as in the intentions of the Manifesto of the Tuscan brand, composed ad hoc for Pineider by the writer Enrico Dal Buono. The fear of the blank page is instead a praise to perseverance and concentration. A tribute to internationalization, refined heritage and the conquest of one’s inner time: the choice of Pierfrancesco Favino as ambassador finds its connection in the dynamism and challenges that Pineider has been embracing since the openings in New York and Singapore. The romantic future, but well anchored in reality, of Pineider is written on the walls of the boutiques in Milan and Rome and of the new headquarters in Florence, on the Lungarno degli Acciaiuoli, among the corners in the best Department Stores and at Milan Malpensa Airport.
